Herbal Education at the County Fair – A Booth Rooted in Tradition, July 31st-Aug 3rd

A Master Herbalist shares why whole-plant medicine making still matters in a world of mass-produced ‘natural’ products.

From July 31 to August 3, I participated as an indoor vendor, sharing Herbal Education at the County Fair through four full days of meaningful conversation. While most fair booths centered on entertainment, food or retail, mine focused on something very different: why making your own herbal medicines is both empowering and essential.

As a Master Herbalist and educator, I shared with visitors the hidden truth behind many ready-made ‘natural’ products—how they are often standardized to a single constituent, extracted with toxic solvents, and not required to disclose these processes on the label. My goal with Herbal Education at the County Fair was to give people the tools and understanding to make safe, effective medicines themselves.

“Holistic herbalism is about the whole plant—not just a single chemical.”

My booth featured my new series of 5 herbal booklets:

  1. Healing Wisdom
  2. Adaptogens, Tonics, Alteratives
  3. Herbal First Aid
  4. Colds & Flu
  5. Basic Herbal Preparations

Visitors also found my free educational bookmarks & handouts along with items to buy. Along with my new booklets, items to buy included: my own herbal bath salts blends, white sage smudge sticks, mugs with inspiring quotes and selected book titles from respected natural healing educators such as Dr. John R. Christopher, James Green and Sandra Ellis.

Unlike product-based booths, my space centered on education, which drew a select group of visitors who shared their own stories and explored the art of herbal preparation. A few people were clearly hungry for this information, and seeing their excitement reminded me that Herbal Education at the County Fair can spark curiosity and empower people to take their wellness into their own hands.

“Even brief conversations can take root and grow into lasting understanding.”

For me, herbal education at the County Fair was about showing up, speaking truthfully and sharing the knowledge that has been handed down through generations. In a world full of mass-produced ”natural’ products, those things matter to me.
